My Story

My first birth ended in a traumatic cesarean section.

When I became pregnant again, I knew I wanted to understand all of my options. That search led me to community midwifery and, ultimately, to a home VBAC, a vaginal birth after cesarean.

Choosing that path required more than making a birth plan.

It required learning to trust my own voice, ask difficult questions, and make decisions that reflected what felt right for me and my family.

The film documents that experience honestly. The excitement. The uncertainty. The preparation. The moments that challenged me. And the birth of my daughter, Lydia.

Why I Chose to Participate

I said yes to this documentary because I believe stories can change conversations.

Black women continue to face unacceptable disparities in maternal health outcomes. While every family deserves access to safe, respectful care, too many people leave their birth experiences feeling unheard or without fully informed choices.

I also hope the film brings greater awareness to the work of community midwives and to Haven Midwifery's vision of expanding access to respectful, community-centered maternity care in New York City.

This film is not about telling people how they should give birth.

It is about reminding people that they deserve informed consent, compassionate care, and the opportunity to make decisions with confidence.

People often find me through leadership coaching.

At first glance, a documentary about birth may seem unrelated.

To me, it isn't.

Whether we're making career decisions, leading teams, becoming parents, or navigating major life transitions, the question is often the same:
